Joseph Cahalan's Photographs, Part 3:

Religious Leaders

These images are from a collection of loose photographs and memorabilia, kept in a cardboard box by my grandfather, Joseph Cahalan, MD.

This part of the collection shows local priests in Wyandotte, including Fr. Charles Louis DePreiter, the first pastor of St. Charles Borromeo Church, which would later be renamed St. Patrick's.  One image includes both Fr. DePreiter and John C. Cahalan, Sr. as a child.

Two images here are not family photographs. They include a picture of Archbishop (later Cardinal) McCloskey, archbishop of New York and the first American to be appointed to the College of Cardinals, and a funeral mass announcement of Pope Leo XIII. They are filed online elsewhere under "Ephemera," a title I've used to indicate images and other parts of the collection which are not photographs and perhaps not directly related to the family, but provide historical context.

Numbered in the order in which they were scanned--a indicates the face, or obverse, of the photo, and b indicates its reverse (if information was to be found there)--this group includes several photographs which have been identified; that information is included in the captions to the images. The originals were first grouped and scanned on January 20th, 2007, and are filed under that date. They have been re-scanned at a higher definition for this upload.
